Redflare and I, as I think I previously have mentioned, got apple trees for Mother’s and Father’s Day.
We planted them, and waited.
Our wait has recently been rewarded.
Redflare’s started looking happy first…
And mine wasn’t too far behind.
I would wager that when Thunderer begins kindergarten in 3 years (wow) we’ll start to see our first apples from these.
So why “mommy and daddy apple”? One of the trees is a golden delicious. It pollinates and self pollinates, hence is the daddy. The mommy tree is a ben davis (predecessor to a red delicious) and needs to have a “daddy tree” in order to have apples. It can’t pollinate itself.
